End of DACA: One Year Later

According to most estimates there are over 1.2 million DACA eligible immigrants, however when AG Jeff Sessions on the orders of President Trump ended the program close to 400,000 DACA eligible immigrants didn’t have the opportunity to apply. DACA has brought recipients security, ability to pursue higher education, a driver license, buy a home, start a business, and pursue professional opportunities that otherwise wouldn’t be possible. There are about 6,000 undocumented students in Arizona who were too young to apply. Many have shared that they feel abandoned and forgotten. Aliento is hosting the event to celebrate the accomplishments of DACA recipients, highlight the stories of those who were too young to apply and those who were too afraid to apply due to the Administration promise to deport all undocumented immigrants, including DACA recipients.
