Aliento's Statement on Biden’s Inauguration

On January 20, 2021. Joseph Biden was officially inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States. Earlier this week, President Biden released details of his immigration proposal which would provide an eight-year path to citizenship for an estimated 11 million people living in the U.S. without legal status.

“We are optimistic on Biden prioritizing immigration and we hope he can work with Congress to get it through the finish line, people have been waiting for a solution for decades.” - Reyna Montoya, Founder/CEO at Aliento and DACA recipient.

For the past four years, the Trump Administration pushed harsh immigration policies, and also rescinded the DACA program. While the DACA program was reinstated in December 2020, the program is still in limbo as the state of Texas is challenging the constitutionality of the DACA program. Democrats have the opportunity to pass a permanent solution for DREAMers for them to live with certainty in our nation.

“We ask Sen. Sinema & Sen. Kelly to prioritize the Biden Immigration Bill in the first 100 days of congress. Democrats have an opportunity to learn from the past and prevent a 2010 repeat where they failed to deliver for DREAMers and immigrants” - Jose Patiño, Education & External Affairs Director and DACA recipient.
