Our hearts go out to the 51 Migrants in San Antonio

We are devastated to hear the passing of the 51 migrants in San Antonio, Texas. 51 human beings who were only seeking a better life, coming from Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras.

Migrants died yesterday following the elusive American Dream of a better life for themselves and their children. This tragedy could have been avoided by ensuring that the USA has a functioning immigrant system that values human life while balancing the economic and safety needs of its society.

As we reflect on this tragedy it's important for us to acknowledge the pain, suffering, and death that our immigration system imposes on migrants seeking better opportunities while we benefit from their labor, and their investment to enrich our communities. Many of us have the privilege to be born in the USA where we don’t have to risk our lives for economic opportunities. On this day, we honored the courageous sacrifices of all undocumented immigrants especially those immigrants who have lost their lives pursing a better life.
