Aliento Statement: Senate Parliamentarian Decision Over Immigration

On September 19, 2021, the Senate Parliamentary recommended to NOT INCLUDE Citizenship for Dreamers and undocumented workers in the $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation bill.

We are devastated that immigration was not included as part of the budget. DACA remains in legal limbo as Federal courts decide its fate. This means that Dreamers are at risk of losing everything and facing potential deportation.

Inaction is not an option, we need the Senate to ensure Dreamers are protected from deportation. It is up to Sen. Sinema and Sen. Kelly to ensure 65,000 Arizona Dreamers are protected from deportation.

Reyna Montoya, Founder + CEO of Aliento, DACA Recipient states:

“As a DACA recipient I’m tired of being a political talking point for many. Once again, Democrats control the Senate, the House of Representatives & the White House. It is NOT enough to preach support for Dreamers. Our skin is at risk of deportation. We need policy change now!”

José Patiño, Education + External Affairs Director, DACA Recipient states:

“It’s been over 20 years since the DREAM Act was first introduced. Today’s decision by the Senate’s parliamentarian is heartbreaking. I am really tired of the constant inaction by both parties. I thought this year would be different. Democrats must deliver a pathway to citizenship for dreamers. No excuses!”
