All my life I was told that receiving an education was a chance of a lifetime.

My name is Daniela Chavira, I’m a student at GCU.

I graduated high school top 2% of my class, was a student-athlete, and volunteered over 700 hours of community service. I was named the 2020 City of Tempe Changemaker. I was named the 2020 Don Carlos Young Humanitarian and Scholar. I received the gold medallion for the Hispanic Heritage Fund Youth Award in the community service category. I received the Scudder Foundation Award and the list goes on...

All my life I was told that receiving an education was a chance of a lifetime. That if I worked really hard I would be able to make my dreams come true. No one ever told me there was a catch. It is a chance given to most, denied to many.

A chance I was almost denied. All because I could not provide a nine-digit number.

Every year 2,000 undocumented students graduate from Arizona high schools and I was one of them. As an undocumented student, I am denied in-state tuition and publicly funded scholarships. Even though I have lived here all my life.

This coming year 2,000 more undocumented students will graduate. Each with hopes and aspirations of their own. 2,000 students who are denied the opportunity to dream, to give back to our communities.

This Nov. 8th, #Prop308 will be on the AZ Ballot. If passed, Prop. 308 would provide in-state tuition to ALL Arizona high school graduates regardless of immigration status.

I am but one of many stories. I ask that you take the time to listen to our stories and find it in your heart to vote on behalf of Arizona's future.
