American Dream and Promise Act of 2021 (HR6) Passes in the House of Representatives

On March 18, 2021, H.R.6 - American Dream and Promise Act of 2021 passed in the House of Representatives

HR6 will provide Dreamers and TPS holders protection from deportation and obtain a permanent legal status in the United States. HR6 would allow nearly 650,000 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, as well as the 1.6 million eligible undocumented youth brought to America as children, a pathway to citizenship in the U.S.. There are 63,500 eligible Dreamers in Arizona and nearly 9 in 10 Americans support a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers.

The bill also includes protections for 300,000 TPS holders and up to 3,600 individuals with DED.

“As someone with #DACA that works with students who are too young to qualify for the program and who have worked with undocumented moms & dads for years, today feels heavy. HR6 is a huge step in the right direction, yet I find myself once again holding my breath. I hold my breath because I know it is in the Senate hands to either make this a reality or crash this opportunity for so many of us. We can’t forget this legislation impacts real people. Today we celebrate, tomorrow focus on ensuring this gets through the finish line.” - Reyna Montoya, Founder/CEO at Aliento and DACA recipient.

It’s up to the U.S. Senate now. We are asking our Arizona Senators Sen. Kyrsten Sinema & Sen. Mark Kelly to Support Pathway to Citizenship for Dreamers and act quickly

For decades Representatives, Senators, & Presidents have promised to provide certainty to Dreamers and undocumented youth, yet year after year Congress plays politics and fails to create a permanent solution for Dreamers. It is morally imperative for Congress to pass a permanent solution for Dreamers that includes a pathway to citizenship, it should not hold Dreamers hostage for exterior motives or other agendas.
